Justin's story

A witness to injustice

Justin Stone
in his own words
Vertical video pending
“My role has been to listen, to examine, and to present the story in a way that is honest, respectful, and unflinching.”

Justin StoneDirector

Justin was introduced to Kelsey's story nearly three years ago, and it has not let go of him since. In his video, he tells how he came to it and what he faced once he started asking questions that some people did not want asked.

He has carried the film through 21 days of filming, about 8,400 miles of travel, and about 1,000 hours of editing.

He made it to bear witness to Kelsey's story, and he is asking you to stand as a witness with him.

Who Kelsey was

Kelsey Rayner Sr. in profile, framed by a red heart

A son, brother, father, and loved one.

Before Kelsey Rayner Sr. became a case, a court filing, an investigative record, or a name associated with a death in custody, he was a person.

Draft copy needed: two or three sentences on who Kelsey was, in the family's words.

This film gives his family the chance to preserve that person, and to confront the circumstances of his death.

Remembering him is something you do. It starts with knowing what happened.

What it takes to finish

This film exists because a family chose to speak.

For nearly three years, Justin has carried their story. Approximately $160,000 in professional production value has already been invested to bring it this far. Much of that is his own labor, equipment, and resources.

What is left is the work that lets an audience truly experience it, with things like music licensing and placement, color grading, sound mixing, and the final master, plus the legal details that make a theatrical release like this one work.

Your gift helps finish that work, tell people the film exists, and bring it to theaters. The first release is planned to begin in cities such as Los Angeles, New York City, and Atlanta.

The goal is to finish it, protect it, launch it, and make sure people see it.
